Swing speech

My first contact with swing culture was in my freshman year of high school. I wasn't part of it myself: that was my brother's domain. His friends had dragged him out to a dance hall—"Dance Central" at the time—to teach him how to swing dance. I don't know if I'd ever heard of swing dancing before. Of course, I'd heard a few standard swing songs, even if I didn't know what they were at the time. After all, who hasn't heard "Zoot Suit Riot" or "Jump, Jive and Wail?" I never thought there could be more to that kind of music.
My brother would go out with his friends every Friday night, returning around midnight exhausted yet strangely energized

I wanted to do more pencil sketches of people, but I didn't want to be stuck looking at my computer for the reference photo while I drew. The simplest solution was to use my signed photo of Armin Shimerman as Quark from Star Trek: Deep Space 9. I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out. His shirt was difficult to draw, which is why I only drew a small portion of it. The reference photo I used is here: [link] .

Drawn entirely with HB 0.5mm mechanical pencil, tweaked slightly in photoshop only to optimize the picture after an encounter with the scanner, which always makes things look worse.
